Hi, I'm Alex.

Photographer and storyteller, based in Salzburg.

I started photographing my own family events: Christmas, christenings, weddings and birthdays. I wanted to capture the moments that I enjoyed so much with the people I loved, and I loved how much joy I could bring them. This started just before Covid.

It felt real. I could see the joy in the moment and see the joy the pictures brought to people.

With a degree in Film and Television and a career in the world of online content, I have spent years on set working with VIPs and athletes for some of the world’s major brands, on anything from social content to hero campaigns. Whether in sports, hiking to Everest Base Camp or in film and media, I learned that it is always the human connection that matters. It is the human connection that stays, that drives you on or really impacts you. This is what brought me to this field.

There’s a picture of my extended family on the beach in Cornwall, England. It was a special holiday for all of us and you can see it in the smiles. You can see the joy and the connection. When you open your gallery years from now, I want you to relive your moment like that. Not to think of me, not about the colours or the framing, but to think “oh, remember when you did X”.

A friend would describe me as open, calm and thoughtful. Some would even say shy, but once I get comfortable I am anything but. Not the life of the party, loud and laughing, but open and honest and always ready for a good story and a smile.

How I work

  • Planning first. We meet, shape a moodboard around your ideas, and as your planning progresses I help you find the best flow for your day. You cannot fabricate magical moments, but you can create the atmosphere and flow that let the magic arrive naturally.
  • I interact, I don’t direct. I only direct in a few situations we have agreed on in advance, such as specific wishes, poses or shots. Otherwise I nudge here or there and am very conscious not to interrupt the moment.
  • Natural light. I use mostly natural light. Any extra light only lifts the levels and accents the existing environment. It never shapes the scene.
  • No presets. Each day, scene and moment has its own light and atmosphere, and each deserves its own grade. What stays the same: natural colours and true skin tones.
  • Details matter too. People and moments come first, but details and textures are like certain notes in music. They add colour, texture and vibrance, and help bring back memories of the day.
  • A gallery that’s easy to enjoy. I build it around the key moments of the day, so you can easily find the pictures you were looking forward to most.

The other side of the lens

A few pictures from the other side of the camera, to help you get to know me a little better. Whether I’m a guest, family or the one behind the lens, you’ll almost always find me smiling, happy to be part of the day and happy to help people along. And yes, that’s Vanessa and me, laughing at her wedding.
